Water Saving

Summer is just around the corner, and we all want to do our part to save water and money! Here are our top 5 tips to help you reduce your water usage.

  1. Upgrade to water-saving appliances and fixings. Whether you are buying a new dishwasher or replacing a flow controller, be sure to check out the WELS rating. The more stars an item has, the more water you will save. Smart buying makes reducing your water usage much easier because it’s doing the hard work for you! Be sure to look at the flow rate (litres per minute) as this can vary substantially depending on the product you are buying.

  2. Fix leaking taps. A leaking tap can waste up to 1,000 litres per year* so don’t let it go – fix it as soon as you notice there is a problem. If you are handy around the home, you may be able to fix simple problems yourself by replacing the o-rings or washers. If this is a little out of your comfort zone, give your local plumber a call and he can help you out.

  3. Install water-saving aerators on all your taps. Aerators are available in a range of flow rates from 2L/min to Full Flow and switching to a lower flow rate can save you thousands of litres per year. This quick easy solution not only reduces water usage, but it can also help keep your bathroom cleaner by reducing water spray! Be sure to check out the WELS rating before you purchase and remember the higher the rating, the more water you save. 4. Install water-saving showerheads. Showers make up almost 25% of water usage in the average household. By swapping to water-efficient showerheads and handpieces, you could save up to 20,000 litres of water per year! Quality water-saving showerheads like Con-Serv’s Streamjet, are great for reducing water usage without sacrificing pressure. Installation is as easy as unscrewing the old and screwing on the new with the bonus of revamping your bathroom in the process!

  5. Reduce your shower time. Cutting your shower time by just 2-minutes can save a whopping 30% on your next water bill. Put a shower timer in your bathroom, or listen to your favourite 4-minute song to time your showers. You’ll be amazed at how little time you need to get yourself clean.
